I was having a conversation the other day with a client about makeup on a budget. Since I am a makeup artist, people seem to believe that all I use is M.A.C. or the expensive lines of makeup. Well, I am here to tell you that is not the case at all. I have used and continue to use just about every makeup brand sold in the drugstore.

Tip: You can make any brand of makeup work and make it look like you have spent a lot of money on it.
Let me give you some examples of what I mean:
1. Always use a base (concealer) on your eyelid before you apply any eyeshadow on top of it. (It will intensify any color you desire to use.)
2. If you feel you need a variety of eyeshadow colors, mix your eyeshadow to create the desired look you want. No need to spend more money buying more eyeshadow. (You can also use this concept with lip colors as well.)
3. Beauty supply stores carry a lot of eyeshadow colors, lip glosses, lipstick, etc. for cheaper prices than drugstores.
4. You can make any foundation matte by setting it with powder.
5. Baby wipes remove makeup better than makeup remover and are less expensive. (They also remove some stains from clothing.)
6. Instead of buying lip gloss buy lipstick instead and mix it with clear gloss.
I hope some of these tips help you trim your spending on makeup and allow you to look glamorous on a budget!!!!!
I always thought that the cheap stuff in the beauty supply stores were bed for your skin. Is that a myth?
I have used beauty supply stuff on a number of occasions. I have never used the foundation or face powder. But I’ve definitely used lip gloss, lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, and eyeshadow. Wow, guess I’m a beauty supply makeup junkie. Lol!
I haven’t had any problems with my skin. From what I’ve heard from the pros, it’s more about how you cleanse and moisturize.
Yes, Keesha it is a myth and as long as you properly cleanse and moisturize your face, like Ericka said, then you are all set!!!! Really if you use a base for eyeshadow and a moisturizer on your face, technically the makeup isn’t really touching your skin anyway.
Great blog! I love makeup and buy tons of it, but always thought I had to buy the expensive stuff in order to get the best look! I’m going to drop by the beauty supply store today to pick up some new stuff! Question: what are the best type of makeup brushes to use and is there a less expensive option for those?
The best type of makeup brushes are the ones made with goat, squirrel, or badger hair. You can find some good ones on ebay that are not expensive at all that come in a set. No one knows what brand of makeup you use when it is on your face anyway, as long as it looks good!!!!
Enjoy!!!
I’m going to try the lipstick with the clear gloss!
Love these tips Chica!!! I’m definitely gonna be using the concealer on my eyelids and baby wipes for remover from now on.
No problem that is what I am here for!!!
