Shecky’s Girls Night Out DC!

Last night a few chicas and I had the pleasure of attending Shecky’s Girls Night Out! And oh what a fun night we had!!! This was my first time attending the event and I’m so glad I went. There were great vendors, music, food tastings, free cocktails, giveaways, and the always fabulous (so I’ve heard) GOODIE BAG! And you all know we looooooooooooooooove FREE stuff! The goodie bag included so many of the things girls love – lip gloss, sweet smelling shower gel (full size), chocolate….dark chocolate (Mmmmmmmmmm!), The Body Shop fragrance samples, lotion, a cute little carrying case for our “girlie products” for that once a month “thingy”, and so much more!!! We ate Southern Girl cupcakes…AND Georgetown Cupcakes, saw great jewelry pieces, cool clothing items, played in makeup, and even visited an interesting table full of “toys”. ;-)

If you haven’t been to Shecky’s you owe it to yourself to go. The good thing is that Shecky’s takes this wonderful display of fabulousness on the road to just about all of the major cities! So gather some of your girlfriends and go have a blast!!! :-)

LOL...we LOVE this!

Paper to Pearls

Mommy Fashionality really, really LOVES fashion for a cause! And this is a cause we think you’ll love just as much as we do!

Allow me to introduce to you….Paper to Pearls. Have you ever met someone and after your initial conversation you think to yourself, “Wow…she’s doing great things. I need to get busy!”  Well that’s exactly how I felt after I met Barbara Moller, president of Voices for Global Change (and a mom). Paper to Pearls, an initiative of VGC, is a project that supports refugees in the Internally Displaced Persons camps of Northern Uganda. Women in the Gulu district create beautiful beaded necklaces made of recycled paper, and with the help of Paper to Pearls, sell these necklaces to provide income for their families. This is a great source of pride, self-confidence, and empowerment for these women. We love it! A whopping 75% – 85% percent of the revenue from necklace sales and donations directly supports the women in the camps. Through Paper to Pearls they are able to pay for medicine, education, and food for themselves and their families. This entrepreneurial and economic empowerment is changing the lives of the women and their children in a tremendous way! As American women, we often take for granted the fact that we have numerous opportunities to earn income and take care of our families. We are free to choose where to work, when to work, how to work, or even not to work. The impact of teaching Ugandan women how to make a life for themselves has the ability to affect generations and generations of people. But initiatives like this need our SUPPORT!

I STRONGLY encourage you to visit PapertoPearls.org to learn more about this wonderful organization, fair trade, and support the cause. There are women/moms in Uganda who need you and I to do our part! Buy a necklace. Tell your friends about Paper to Pearls. Throw a bead party. Make a donation. Help change a life!

Simply Soles…Simply Fabulous!

Kassie Rempel, Owner of Simply Soles

A couple of weekends ago I attended the Grand Opening of Simply Soles at the National Harbor. For those of you who don’t live in the DC area, Simply Soles is a cool, super chic boutique that sells shoes, accessories, jewelry, and handbags. After experiencing great success at the Georgetown location, the Simply Soles team decided to spread their wings and landed at the National Harbor. The morning of the opening I debated not going. It was a gorgeous, perfect sunny day but I really didn’t want to go by myself. In the end I decided to go and I’m so glad I did! The store is beautiful…loved it! You MUST go visit AND buy something (they sell kids merchandise too)! But I was most impressed with owner, Kassie Rempel. Can you say SUPER MOM?!? She’s a wife, mother of two young children, CPA, fashion designer (her shoe line, Lillybee, is sold in her store) and entrepreneur doing big things! I’m so impressed! She’s a true testament that being a mom does not mean sacrificing your own goals and dreams. We can accomplish whatever our hearts desire with hard work and perseverance. Kassie has turned her love of shoes into a successful enterprise. Let’s follow her lead. Mommies, we CAN accomplish GREAT things! So…let’s do it! NO EXCUSES. :-)

To shop and learn more about Kassie, visit simplysoles.com, or one of the stores in Georgetown or the National Harbor.

More Than Just A Day Off!

In honor of Memorial Day, Mommy Fashionality encourages you to remember the brave moms who are deployed and away from their children, spouses, and loved ones. Keep them in your prayers today and everyday. We’d also like to encourage you to get involved with organizations such as Operation Military Kids in order to make a contribution and a positive impact in the life of a military child. It is a blessing to see your child(ren) everyday, to put them to bed at night, make them breakfast in the morning. Let’s not take this for granted!

Thank you to ALL of the soldiers who serve our country and sacrifice so that we may enjoy a life of freedom!

A penny for your thoughts.

This is a great idea! Oh how I wish I had thought of it! What am I talking about? The website www.gotryiton.com. So here’s how it works: Got an outfit you’re on the fence about but don’t have a reliable source around (i.e. your kids or friends) to give you an honest answer? Well upload a photo of the outfit and get the opinions of a community, just like you, who are also wondering if they should wear it or change it. A little shy but still would like an honest opinion? My advice is don’t put your face in the picture. The only info that is given is the event you are wearing the outfit to, what exactly you are leery about, and who it is that you are wearing. I love it! I know you’re like me wishing that you came up with this idea too! Well at least we can be a part of it! :-)   So go try it and go get some comments! And the best part about it is, IT’S FREE!  Free advice is the best advice ever given. Take it from someone who charges for hers! ;-)

Chikara

As I was looking through the May edition of Lucky magazine, I saw an advertisement for Chikara. As usual, I immediately thought of you! Created by Hilary Boyajian, Chikara is a clothing collection designed especially for women who have undergone breast cancer treatments and surgeries. The designs are perfect for women who are experiencing breast asymmetry due to single or bilateral mastectomy, lumpectomy, and other breast cancer related procedures. The name Chikara is Japanese for strength, power, and energy. These clothes allow women to lovingly embrace their bodies, while being stylish and confident! The creative use of fabrics, silhouettes, and necklines is incredible! The clothes are great! There are blouses, swimwear, and active wear. Being a fan of ruffles and draping, many of these pieces we’d love for ourselves! Mommy Fashionality loves what Chikara is doing for women! In addition, 10% of the proceeds are donated to Susan G. Komen Greater NYC. What a wonderful way to give back! Tell all of your friends and family. Spread the word. :-)

HOT Mama’s Celebrate!

Hanging out!

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching! These next couple of weekends the malls will be hustling and bustling with guys frantically searching for the perfect gift, and women trying to figure out what the heck to buy a guy besides a tie, golf clubs, boxers, or cologne! :-)

Well after you’ve celebrated with your honey (or honeys ;-) ), how about doing a little celebrating with a few of the fabulous moms you know? Plan a HOT MAMA EVENT. About 2 1/2 years ago I started organizing HOT Mama Events every other month. I wanted to provide an opportunity for the moms I know (along with myself) to get dolled up, go out, and have some fun . . . without our husbands, boyfriends, baby daddy, and children. The purpose of HOT Mama is to help moms remember that motherhood is no excuse for a loss of fabulosity! The outings are our time to let our hair down, laugh, talk, and simply enjoy being a WOMAN, not just a mom.

So after V-day has passed, think about planning a HOT MAMA EVENT! Go to a movie, bowling, out to eat, or have a game night. The moms won’t care…most of them will relish the opportunity to “kick it” without the little people entourage!

Atlantic City trip!

Be fabYOUlous!!!

Help Haiti!

When you look at the situation in Haiti, the top spring trends for 2010, hot new beauty products, and where to get the best deals all seem so insignificant. Today Mommy Fashionality would like to encourage all of our readers to HELP HAITI! The Haitian community needs our love and support in this time of major devastation and disaster. Don’t just sit back and watch the news coverage. Please do something! With the same urgency and energy we put forth to grab great deals at the mall, we must lend our assistance to people in need. If you are not in a position to donate clothes, food, or money you can still support by offering up your PRAYERS. Prayer still works! God bless you and may God bless the people of Haiti in a tremendous way.

Sincerely,

The Mommy Fashionality Crew – Deena, Stevie, and Ericka
